Most of our private surfing lessons are with first-timers so if you’ve never ridden a wave that’s ok, we’ll help you get there! If you’ve surfed before but are seeking to advance your skills our instructors can guide you in your next steps through a more intermediate surf lesson experience!

Even though this will be a bit further of a drive when traveling from Santa Barbara, the great waves are worth while. 1 Person Surf Lesson ~ $125

This is a private one on one surf lesson in Santa Barbara and the perfect introduction to surfing for beginners as well as a great way to progress your surfing skills if you have experience. We will begin on the beach going over ocean safety, where to position yourself on the board, paddling and pop up techniques, and proper stance before heading into the water. Once in the water the instructor will be right there with you assisting with where to be in the surf and pushing you into waves.

2 Person Surf Lesson ~ $85 per person

A two-person surf lesson in Santa Barbara is great for friends, couples, or family members looking to learn and/or progress their surfing skills together. Having a companion in the water during your surf lesson allows you to share the stoke and create a lasting memory, and provide you the chance to share waves together!

3-5 Person Surf Lesson ~ $75 per person

The 3-4 person surf lesson is an excellent option for those traveling with a group of friends or their family. Our instructors will take turns working with each participant individually, ensuring everyone receives the proper attention while developing their techniques. Your family and friends will be cheering you on as you surf waves at Santa Barbara’s great right hand point breaks and sand bottom beach breaks.

6+ Person Surf Lesson ~ $65 per person

Our surf lessons for 5+ people are catered to larger groups of friends, families, and businesses who are looking to learn to surf in Santa Barbara together. Bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate group outings, and larger families will be able to share the joy of learning to surf together. For these larger groups, multiple instructors are available to ensure a quality surf lesson experience.

Surfing Lessons Proven to Work

Private Surf Lessons in Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, and Ventura are our specialty. We feel the best way to maximize your time is to have a surf instructor solely devoted to you, your family or friends. This insures you will be getting the most hands on practice during your time in the water. Typically our Instructors can coach up to 4 students at a time. If you want to surf privately with a larger group we will add instructors as needed.

Our proven method for teaching surf lessons is one that has come together through the combined knowledge of our veteran surfers throughout Santa Barbara and the feedback we get from our students. We have carefully studied the most important steps to becoming a successful surfer, and how to make the most of your time. Which is why we’re confident Santa Barbara Surfing School will have you surfing in no time.

Details for Your Surf Lesson with Us

Duration -1.5 hours.

We have found that an hour and a half is the sweet spot. Typically we spend a little time getting into our suits and then going over surf techniques on the beach before hitting the waves. This leaves us with a solid hour of wave riding. It’s enough time to catch plenty of waves and also leave you thoroughly tired. We’re more than happy to extend our lessons though so be sure to let us know if you’d like us to go longer when making your reservation.

Where to meet?
Once booked we’ll send over your surf location and driving directions via email. If you don’t receive an email with driving directions please call us. We often teach 20 minutes south of Santa Barbara because the waves in town are close to “un-surfable” a majority of the year. Whereas, the surf down south tends to be much more ideal for a quality surf lesson experience! That being said, if there’s any surf at all in town your lesson will be scheduled in town. In order for us to provide a 5 star experience there’s a chance you’ll be having a Carpinteria or Ventura surf lesson depending on the behavior of the waves during your trip.

Surf conditions are changing on a daily basis, which is why we make it our business to insure you’re catching the best waves in the area on any given day. Our experienced staff is always keeping their eyes on wave heights and wind patterns and will be able to inform you which location we will be meeting you at when you call to make a reservation. What’s included?
We will provide the board, leash, wetsuit, and the instructor for 90 minutes. All you need to do is show up with your bathing suit.
