The youngest we'll teach is 5 years old.

For your child's safety we will not take kids any younger than 5 years old.

Where we teach our surf lessons may be one of the most consistent and gentle waves in all of California. Easily the best beginner break on the central coast, Mondos Beach is famous for its reliability.

That being said, it can be possible for Mondos to be flat. When this happens, we'll be sure to call and update you on your new surf lesson location. Oftentimes, it is another surf break close to Mondos so that you don't need to drive much further.

If ever there is a day where our team feels you won't be able to catch at least a couple waves we will call you to encourage a reschedule. However, with our decades of experience, this happens less than 1% of the time.

There is a porta potty on the PCH at Mondos beach but there are no facilities beyond that.

Mondos beach is along the beautiful and iconic pacific coast hwy that is only home to private homes, campgrounds, and beachfront.

Be sure to bring a towel with you to dry off after your surf lesson but plan on showering back in town at your house, hotel, or rental.

Tips are not required but they are highly encouraged if your instructor did a great job.

If you're unsure how much, start with the hospitality standard of 15-20% and if your surf lesson was an amazing experience or your instructor impressed you it is common for the tip to reflect a higher percentage to communicate that appreciation.

Our instructors are incredibly skilled and always put safety first. 1 instructor can comfortably handle parties of 4-5 surfers. If your party is 6 or more surfers we will provide a second instructor.

For families with small kids we highly recommend booking two private surf lessons at the same time so that 1 instructor can be with the adults and teens and the 2nd can be dedicated to the smallest kid.

For the most part, for kids ages 5-8 years old we recommend booking them a private 1 on 1 lesson and a second lesson for the rest of the family scheduled at the same time.

Due to the popularity of Mondos beach our surf truck will not be parked in the same location every day. We park wherever we can find a good spot.

Because of this we recommend driving up and down the PCH until you have located our truck so that you know where to walk after parking.

For the most part our team tends to park closer to the north side of Mondos beach closer to 3674 Pacific Coast HWY, rather than to the homes south of the surf break.

While our surf shop is located in Santa Barbara it is very common for lessons to take place just south of Santa Barbara.

The reason why we don't often teach in the city of Santa Barbara is because there are no waves, at least not enough for a quality 5-star surf experience.

Santa Barbara's unique south-facing topography paired with the Channel Islands blocks a lot of swell and pushes the waves further down the coast.

Most of the surf breaks in Santa Barbara in the summer are a lake and if we taught lessons there you'd be floating in the ocean for most of your lesson.

Yes, we do carry life vests and boogie boards. To add these to your reservation please mention the request in the additional notes field in checkout.

Please note that we require ALL surf lesson students to know how to SWIM before taking a lesson with us. Life vests make it extremely difficult to paddle into waves which is why we only recommend them for small kids riding white water waves.

If your kid is too small for a surfboard your instructor may require that they boogie board instead. If you'd like to add a boogie board rental on top of your lesson for small kids not in the lesson they are $15.

Yes, in fact we offer a large discount off of our normal surfboard rental rate for students who take a lesson.

After your surfing lesson you can keep your board and suit included with your lesson for an extra 1.5 hours for only $10. Normally a surfboard and wetsuit rental is $45.
